Bird Thermal Drone Surveys
Thermal drone surveys are a highly effective, non-invasive method for monitoring bird species, particularly in challenging or sensitive environments. Using high-resolution thermal imaging cameras mounted on drones, we can detect the heat signatures of birds - including nesting adults, roosting groups, and even chicks - with minimal disturbance which then is followed by a high quality optical RGB photograph allowing accurate identification and recorded in the field in real-time.

At BHWC, we adhere to strict licensing and ethical standards and work closely with licencing authorities to ensure data collected supports conservation objectives while protecting vulnerable bird populations.

This approach is especially valuable during the breeding season, as it allows surveyors to locate nests in dense vegetation, on moorlands, or across expansive wetland areas where ground-based methods are limited (licence dependent for protected species).
