Herbivore Impact Assessments

We offer a variety of assessments to monitor impact on woodland with our experienced team of surveyors trained in the following:

Woodland Grazing Toolbox - the Woodland Herbivore Impact Assessment Method is a method of assessing and monitoring the impact of large herbivores (cattle, sheep, deer, goats, pigs, horses) on habitats that are already wooded or may develop in to woodland. The method is subjective in that it is based on observations, not detailed measurements.

Deer impact and activity assessment -  The former Deer Initiative developed a method for assessing deer activity and impact in woodlands. This enables land owners and deer managers to establish a baseline and monitor change and to plan deer management in an evidence based way. See below for our methodology and example record sheet.
